Merrill Dubrow: My name is Merrill Dubrow, CEO of M/A/R/C Research, and a 35 plus year veteran of the insights community and the host of our podcast on the M/A/R/C. Welcome to another Merrill-ISM segment. Today's segment is “My greatest accomplishment so far is, dot-dot-dot.” In the past few weeks, I've been asked this question a few times by some people I mentor. And each time I don't pause, I don't even have to think about my answer and say well, I've won national awards or I hit a homerun over the fence on my 40th birthday. I go with the same answer: I graduated college in four years. Not four and a half, not five, not six. But four. The reason is because I actually think going from high school to college is a hard transition. Actually, it can be brutal for many, lots of people drop out, lots of people change majors, lots of people get caught up in lots of different things and their grades suffer. Many things can happen. For me, I was immature in high school. Actually, let me take that back. very immature, I wasn't a great student. I wasn't a great athlete, I was good, but nothing special. I went to school in New York, and kind of reinvented myself by accident. And I graduated in four years. Funny when I hear some of my friends and high school graduates say “I'm taking a gap year” or “My kid is taking a gap year.” I'm not sure I would have been brave enough to say that to my dad. If I did, my dad would have said “gap year, what's a gap year?” “Well, Dad, I need to figure out what I want to do and need some time to myself to do it.” “Oh, I see. Great. You'll have plenty of time to figure that out, Merrill, what you want to do when you're in college. The answer is no.” And then he probably would have poked me with the pool cube, which he did often. Yes, I am serious. My dad was a great guy, but he was tough. What do you think of my response? What would your answer be? About what is your greatest accomplishment so far? How would you answer that question? My name is Merrill Dubrow. Stay well, stay safe and please, please stay in touch.
