Merrill Dubrow: My name is Merrill Dubrow, CEO of M/A/R/C Research and 35 plus year veteran of the Insights Community and the host of our podcast, On the M/A/R/C. Welcome to another On the M/A/R/C Merrill-ISM. I hit the boss lottery. I got to tell you, I really love the title and subject. and I want to start by saying this isn't mine. This title came from an article I was reading that Phil Terry wrote. Phil is an entrepreneur, he's an author, all-around great guy, and somebody that my buddy, Steve Schlesinger, introduced me to years ago, and my life is better for it. That might be the best and greatest compliment I could give somebody or frankly, receive. Phil was sharing a story that I was reading and mentioned that 30 years ago, he hit the boss lottery. Phil mentioned that his boss was amazing. And he felt that because she supported his ambitions. Early on, Phil had a stress injury and his boss helped get a voice recognition system to help through the process. Phil also mentioned that she always took the blame and gave credit to others and was always there to support him. I want to share what hitting the boss lottery means to me because frankly, I've had some amazing bosses, but most not so much. If I said, "I hit the boss lottery," for me, it allowed me the chance to grow and frankly make mistakes. My boss lottery person would be teaching me ways to overcome some of my weaknesses and pointing them out, someone who believes in me, supports me for sure, but will challenge me when it's necessary. For me, hitting the boss lottery isn't about money or about being treated special or allowing me to do what I want, when I want like some bosses or even a promotion. No, it's about showing me the way, helping me. Being there when I need it. And it's really all about maximizing my potential in my career. What does hitting the boss lottery mean to you? How many bosses have you had in your career and without mentioning any names, please, what percentage do you think you hit the boss lottery with? Thanks for listening to today's On the M/A/R/C Merrill-ISM, I hit the boss lottery. My name is Merrill Dubrow. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing your stories. Stay well, stay safe, and please, please stay in touch.
