Merrill Dubrow: My name is Merrill Dubrow, CEO of M/A/R/C Research and a 35 year veteran of the Insights community and the host of our podcast, On The M/A/R/C. Welcome to another On The M/A/R/C Merrill-ISM. Only schedule it for 30 minutes. So, there you are. You're having a challenging problem that's in front of you. Perhaps you're struggling with a client, a staff member, or perhaps you're trying to strategize about a new product or service or introduce a new line of business. What do you do? Most have a brainstorming session, a problem solving meeting. What I suggest is invite a small group, perhaps - I don't know - four to five people to the session. The real point that I want to make is schedule it for 30 minutes. Not an hour, not 90 minutes, but 30 minutes. Here is why I say that. Your team, the group in there, will come up with 90 to 92% of all the solutions within 30 minutes. You could be in the room for another hour or two and you'll only increase that percentage, in my opinion, up to 94 or 95%. And I for one, I don't think it's worth it. I don't believe the extra time of an hour to get a couple percentage points is worth the ROI. It just doesn't make sense to me. I for one have sat in way too many sessions like that, that went way too long and I have a feeling you have as well. What are your thoughts? Thanks for listening to today's On The M/A/R/C Merrill-ISM. Only schedule it for 30 minutes. My name is Merrill Dubrow, I'm excited to hear from you. Stay well, stay safe, and please, please stay in touch.
