Merrill Dubrow: My name is Merrill Dubrow, CEO of M/A/R/C Research and a 35 plus year veteran of the insights community and the host of our podcast, On the M/A/R/C. Welcome to another On the M/A/R/C Merrill-ISM. Thanks for inspiring me. Of course today's Merrill-ISM is going to start with another story. I get an e-mail early in the day from a team member at M/A/R/C named Louis. Great guy, talented and been with the company, you're not going to believe this, over 40 years. Yes, he started way back in 1984. I'm actually going to read you the entire email word for word. Hi, Merrill, I just want to let you know that I fixed my video background and I've organized my email so that I only have eight in my inbox instead of 80,000. It feels good. I've also joined a gym and got a trainer too. Thanks for inspiring me. Great email. Let me say that at M/A/R/C, I have these sessions called Ask Merrill where it's usually six or so random staff weekly just to touch base with people. No agenda, just an open discussion about anything that tends to pop into my crazy brain which can be dangerous. Well, what Louis was referring to in his email was things that came up in an Ask Merrill session the week prior. And I want to read the email one more time because I want to highlight the most important four words in his email to me. Hey Merrill, I just want to let you know that I fixed my video background and I've organized my email so that I only have eight in my inbox instead of 80,000. It feels good. I have also joined a gym and got a trainer too. Thanks for inspiring me. You know, I love that email. I'm going to save that email. I'm going to share that email and the most important four words to me are these, thanks for inspiring me. First, Louis, you're welcome because I think I actually should be thanking you for allowing yourself to be inspired. My belief, perhaps wrong, is that many people don't actually allow that. They're standoffish. They don't have the capacity to learn. They don't have great self-awareness. Louis, you didn't do that, you listened. You processed the information that we talked about on that Ask Merrill session, you decided to make some changes and now you have a plan. And I've got to tell you something Louis, I'm ridiculously proud of you. Thanks for listening to today's On the M/A/R/C Merrill-ISM. Thanks for inspiring me. I truly hope you enjoyed today's subject. My name is Merrill Dubrow, I look forward to hearing from you. Stay well, stay safe and please, please stay in touch.
