Merrill Dubrow: Hi, my name is Merrill Dubrow, CEO of M/A/R/C Research and a 35 plus year veteran of the Insights community and the host of our podcast On The M/A/R/C. Welcome to another On The M/A/R/C Merrill-ISM. Buc-ee's has gotten it right. You've probably seen what the funny accent guy from Boston just say, “What's a Buc-ee?” Yes, you heard it right, I said Buc-ee's. Buc-ee's, you see, is a chain of country stores, gas stations, and they had electric vehicle chargers, they're created and owned by a guy named Arch “Beaver” Aplin the third, headquartered actually in Lake Jackson, Texas, and no idea where that is. The chain was founded in 1982. So wow, 41 years ago in Clute, Texas. Again, no idea what that is. Buc-ee's has been expanding to a number of states besides Texas, they're in Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee, and a bunch of new locations planned for North Carolina, Colorado, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, and Louisiana. So, what is a Buc-ee's and why is Merrill talking about it? Well, if you haven't been yet, they're located pretty much on the highway. It's almost a big Walmart like gas station that sells tons of food. Makes a tremendous amount of food on site like barbecue sandwiches. They've got lots of breakfast sandwiches. They've got tacos, and they've got a ton of other items that I like, which is I don't know, maybe 50 different kinds of fudge and maybe 100 different kinds of beef jerky. They also have the cleanest restrooms you'll ever see and have won lots of awards to prove it. In fact, winning Cintas award for the best restroom in America as far back as 2012. So, I can't even make this stuff up. That's all great. But the best part is Buc-ee, who is usually dressed up in costume, and kids love to take their picture with him. In fact, I've got pictures of my kids with them. It's the staff. Everyone is amazing. Every single person has a smile on their face. They love to work there and is ridiculously helpful. They all work as a team and truly appear to love working there. In fact, a few weeks ago, I went with my buddy Glen and Brian out to visit our friend Matt, to East Texas and we stopped at a Buc-ee's near Tyler. And I got to tell you something. The entire Tyler Buc-ee's staff was nothing short of awesome. We stopped it on a Friday and a Saturday and it was the same. They work as a team and trust me, they are impressive. Thanks for listening to today's On The M/A/R/C Merrill-ISM, Buc-ee's has gotten it right. I truly hope if you haven't experienced a Buc-ee's, you do very, very soon. I look forward to hearing from you. Stay well, stay safe, and please, please stay in touch.
